Migrating Birds & Big Birds

January 9-10-11

A new year and time for a refresher on tips, techniques and tricks. We will be painting our world around us with scenes of “Migrating Birds” and “Big Birds” such as herons, using all the beautiful colors to express your unique self. We will be learning the basic shapes of birds and how to draw added shapes to that basic to make them different from each other. A one-hour demo followed by individual instructions to new artist, as needed, will get you started in your watercolor world. For new artists, lender kits are available at a small charge. Most students bring a bag lunch, and come early to set up before the 10AM demo.

Tea Pots and Cups &  Floral and Glass

February 6-7-8

The Day 1 demo will be “Tea Pots and Cups” with day 2 “Floral and Glass”, both creating a few delicate paintings for Valentine’s Day. We will learn to paint shadows on pots and cups before the detail designs and perspective of round objects, along with precision painting. A one hour demo followed by individual instructions to new artists, as needed, will get you started in your watercolor world. Most students bring a bag lunch, and come early to set up before the 10AM demo. For new artists, lender kits are available at a small charge.

Down the Road

March 6-7-8

Painting “Down the Road”, a theme where we’ll practice proper perspective of roads, car and trucks. Painting our everyday travels on the Eastern Shore with its unique colors and scenes. We will incorporate texture using salt and water splattering in our painting. We will learn the three value method to develop our scenes starting with the light value, and then going to mid value to the darkest. A one hour demo followed by individual instructions to new artists, as needed, will get you started in your watercolor world. For new artists lender kits are available at a small charge. Most students bring a bag lunch, and come early to set up before the 10 A.M. demo.

Spring Flowers and Fruits

April 10-11-12

Painting day 1 “Spring Flowers and Fruits” will immerse you in the flavor of spring. Azaleas come in a wide range of pinks, purples, reds, whites, and bi-colors. This is good way to learn a bit of color theory on how colors mix, match and contrast each other. Day 2 we will be painting a “Bowl of Strawberries” with a little masking the seeds, using lifting technique and mixing colors on the page. We may even eat a few of them! We will have an hour demo each day and after that, new artists will have additional Tips and Technique instruction. For new artists lender kits are available at a small charge. Most students bring a bag lunch, and come early to set up before the 10 AM demo.

Lighthouse & Beach Chairs

May 8-9-10

On Day 1 it’s time to paint that special “Lighthouse” that you have taken hundreds of photos of in every season. So bring in your resources to use and I will have additional photos of lighthouses if needed. We will learn lighthouse perspective, masking with tape and some history to go along with it. Day 2 will be a demo of “Beach Chairs”, our favorite spot to be. We will have an hour demo each day and after that, new artists will have additional Tips and Technique instructions. For new artists lender kits are available at a small charge. Most students bring a bag lunch, and come early to set up before the 10 AM demo.

Best Vacation Ever

June 5-6-7

On Day 1 we’ll be painting our “Best Vacation Ever” in O.C. Learning all the different colors to use for sand and all the colorful beach umbrellas will be enjoyable. Day 2 we will be painting the “Inlet Break Water”. Learning to paint splashes, rocks, gradient sky washes, and sand using many tricks such as card scraping, liquid masking, stamping and more. We will have an hour demo to start each day and after that, new artists will have additional tips and technique instructions. For new artists lender kits are available at a small charge. Most students bring a bag lunch, and come early to set up before the 10 AM demo.

January 26 “Tea Cups”, we can start our morning with tea or coffee, a whimsical and joyful

painting lesson while exercising a study in values. This lesson can also expand into painting anysubject you care to explore such as people landscapes and more. Come early to set up, lenderkits available to beginners for a small charge.

February 16 “Goldfish” painting is something magical and whimsical with their effervescent colors sure to give you an enjoyable day and a fun painting to take home. We’ll be creating and learning many tips and techniques while you paint your goldfish. Come early to set up, lender kits available to beginners for a small charge.

March 30 “Eastern Shore Farms and Skies”. We will be learning the 3 steps to painting a

landscape, starting with light values going into mid values and ending in the darks and lipsticks! Using techniques as large flat washes, gradients and transitions washes to make a beautiful scene. Come early to set up, lender kits available to beginners for a small charge.

April 20 “Spontaneous Painting” is putting dabs of multi colors on a store card or palette knife then pulling it across the paper, followed by misting and dropping water on the paper and moving it around to get different effects. Then enhancing what you see into trees and landscapes. Very loose, little control and lots of fun. You never know what will happen but you can create beyond what you think. Come early to set up, lender kits available to beginners for a small charge.

April 27 “Spring Flowers” Quick and easy impressionistic spring flowers with their striking

brightness of many colors are a joy to paint. Light and delicate azaleas will be in bloom for us to study and paint. We will be blending and mixing colors on the page to make each flower glow. I will have many references available and you can bring in your own photos or cuttings. Come early to set up, lender kits available to beginners for a small charge.

May 18 “Sand Dunes” by the sea are a beautiful part of the relaxing scene of vacations. I will demo to start, and then we’ll create a sea scene with beautiful sand dunes and clear skies so you’ll almost smell the sea. Using watery washes and building to dry and painting in flowing motions to create sea, sky and sand dunes. Light and easy watercolor painting that will be enjoyable to do. Come early to set up, lender kits available to beginners for a small charge.

June 15 “Here Crabbe Crabby” An O.C. favorite! What’s not to like. Learning simple shapes

to put this crab together then learning to blend colors on the page to make each crab unique.You can create them living with their unique green shells with teal blue claws or red hot cooked colors. I’ll demo different tips and techniques along the way to help you in your watercolor journey. Come early to set up, lender kits available to beginners for a small charge.
